SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE BALLET
South Florida’s preeminent classical ballet company will start 2010 with a bold line up. Continuing its successful tradition of the “Sunday Afternoon” series, Ballet Etudes proudly presents several company premieres. Little Red Riding Hood & the Enchanted Forest is Director Susana Prieto Elden’s newest creation. After two months in the making the highly anticipated adaptation of the famous fairy tale will come to life on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Hialeah Performing Arts Theater. What sets this interpretation apart is the integration of the virtuosic Diana et Actéon Pas de Deux into the story. Taís Diana and Alysson Rocha, returning guests from Rio de Janeiro, will appear as the famous Huntress and Hunter. Ballet Etudes dancers Monica Villar and Sanford Placide will appear as Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf, respectively.
The production will also include a suite from the celebrated classic, La Bayadère. The ballet is about the temple dancer (a bayadère) Nikiya, the warrior Solor, and their eternal love. The chosen scene is from The Kingdom of the Shades. During this dream sequence, Solor is reunited with the spirit (shade) of Nikiya and they dance among the shades of other bayadères. Dagmar Moradillos will appear as Nikiya and Alysson Rocha will appear as Solor. The three Shade variations will be danced by Jessica Canino, Laura Spanioli, and Monica Villar.
Other works to be presented include the famous tambourine variation from La Esmeralda which will be danced by Taís Diana and a new work by choreographer Peter La Fox which will be danced by Sanford Placide. Appearing in their second annual showcase are dancers from the Junior Company and Junior Ensemble Workshops. These students are extremely dedicated and spend several hours in addition to their Workshop classes in rehearsal for these special performances.
Ballet Etudes Company is overseen by Director Susana Prieto Elden and Artistic Advisor Rodolfo Rodriguez, who has privately coached several dancers for this production. Since its inception 35 years ago, Ballet Etudes continues to attract and delight audiences with clean technique, passionate dancers, creative leadership, and amazing guest artists. Whether seeking to enjoy traditional classical ballet or be intrigued by original contemporary dance, Sunday Afternoon at the Ballet is the place to be. Ticket prices are only $10 pre-sale and $15 at-the-door. Tickets are available at both Ballet Etudes locations, Hialeah and Miami Lakes.
